What's the difference between a purse and a handbag?
A handbag, also called purse in North American English, is a handled medium-to-large bag used to carry personal items.
There really is no difference. Purse and handbag are mostly interchangeable. The handbag is most often used by the industry, the purse is used by ordinary people. There’s also a certain amount of regionalism to the words, some areas prefer one over the other.
